"Tusaayaksat, meaning “stories that need to be heard” in Inuvialuktun, is the only magazine that has told the stories of Inuvialuit (Western Arctic Inuit) and served Inuvialuit Beneficiaries for more than 30 years. It has been recognized across the country at the National Magazine Awards as a finalist for the Best Magazine (Special Interest) category, and is a winner of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers’ (RGD’s) So(cial) Good Design Award. We are a non-profit, Northern, and Inuvialuit-centered publication from the Inuvialuit Communications Society (ICS) based in Inuuvik, Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR), and we strive to have all of our content produced by Inuvialuit, Indigenous people, and Northerners. ICS’ core mandates are to: (1) strengthen, preserve and enhance the cultural and social identity of Inuvialuit in the Western Arctic; (2) maintain and promote the lifestyles and cultural component of Inuvialuit in the Western Arctic; and (3) provide a vehicle for the exchange of ideas, promote a better understanding of the culture, identity, language, mythology, social patterns and presentations which give meaning to being an Inuvialuk in the Western Arctic."
